Purim is a one-day holiday celebrating the fact that the Jews persevered through just another one of their troubles. The famous Queen Esther, the niece of Mordechai, was chosen to be the queen alongside the Persian king Achashverosh. Achashverosh’s second in command was an evil man named Haman who planned on killing all the Jews in the area. To make a long story short, Esther and her uncle managed to tell Achashverosh of Haman’s evil plan and that they too were Jewish. Achashverosh was shocked by all this news and in the end, killed Haman before anything could happen. On Purim, the Jewish people celebrate Esther and Mordechai by telling their story and dress up in costume because the story is essentially a work of God in disguise as He is not mentioned once in the Megillah. In the Megillah, the name of Haman is read with the listeners drowning out his name with groggers since he was so evil.
